I have just upgraded my Linux Mint from 9 to 14 (Nadia) and first issue was with playing audio through

1) do

3) change it to
4) do
reboot your system and enjoy!
Card: HDA ATI HDMI
Chip: ATI RS690/780 HDMI

2) find the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
3) change it to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.audio=1"
4) do
sudo update-grub
reboot your system and enjoy!
